Emergency Room Life and Death at VGH

Last year I had the privilege of directing the second season of the popular documentary series Emergency Room Life and Death at VGH for Knowledge Network and Lark Productions. The first episode of the series will air on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 at 9pm PT and there are 49 short stories already available to watch on-line that provide a flavor of what’s to come.

It was an honour to have a front row seat to the goings on in one of the busiest emergency rooms in the province. I had a tremendous team of talented people with me in the emergency room to help capture and share the stories of what happens behind the scenes. There were more talented people hard at work shaping and editing the material we captured. Most of all, those in front of the camera, those willing to share their work and their stories are the ones I’m in awe of. For their trust and connection I will be forever grateful.

This is a documentary series, it is not for the faint of heart, there is blood, there is death, there are broken bones and broken hearts. But there are also important issues raised that are worth further consideration and hopefully we’ve presented the material in a way that will provide pause for thought around end of life issues, the elderly, mental health and nurses (to name a few).

There’s lots of buzz about the series. Dr. Chad Kim Sing, Penny Acton and I spoke about the series with Don Shafer on Roundhouse Radio’s show Impact. Pamela Fayerman published an article in the Vancouver Sun recently. I was quoted in a Reel West article.

Watch on television or watch online, but tune in if you can
